However...If you have an actor like Nathan Lane and a part like Max Bialystok, it would be a travesty if he did not win the Tony, even over Broderick. Broderick had a similar spectacular role as J. Pierrepont Finch and received one of his two Tonys for that. One of the great acceptance speeches, because Lane actually knew everyone he wanted to thank by heart, didn't have to stumble ahead, go back to fetch a name he had forgotten to mention. A real _mensch_ .

Nathan Lane is what make this story so magic

The host is channelling Jerry Seinfeld's voice and tempo! I love this show. LD, Madonna and Ricky Gervais were ace.

Ironically, Nathan's simple, almost childish part in this duet was written specifically for the limited vocal range of the great Sam Levene, the original Broadway show's Nathan Detroit, who couldn't sing at all but was so perfect in the role's character.

Was lucky enough to see them on Broadway too. They were just wonderful. When you're a theatrical performer this is the level you're aiming for.

I watched a cast reunion on zoom from a couple of years ago (it's on YT), and Faith Prince said that during rehearsals it was Nathan's idea for her to really whack him with her purse. His comic instincts are impeccable.
